Thursday , 19/07/2012

As usual , I arrived UTeM  at 9 am. Then continue with last task given by monday about gsm modem. To do the program, should understand the basic of PIC C. So today, I'm doing lab session 8 for embedded system communication. The objectives of this lab is to connect the PIC to the workstation using RS232 connection communication and produce output. There are several steps to program code for PIC to communicate with PIC via RS232 .

  1. type the program code
  2. the program is written with two kinds of error which are syntax error and logical error. Troubleshoot and solve them.
  3. simulate the program using proteus
  4. load the program to PIC using compiler and connect serial communication to PC using RS232 protocol.
  5. open hyperterminal or putty.exe on the PC using 9600 baund 8bits data no parity, 1 stpop bit and no flow control.

Wednesday, 18/7/2012

Today as usual I arrived UTeM at 9 am and I continue the task given, about GSM modem. Still blur to program it in PIC C. After all, need to study the basic of PIC C programming for CCS. Try to understand why use C. After study ,C is portable language intended to have minimal modification when transferring to another uC. It also easy to understand and it is very efficient for complicated program. After study the fundamental, I tried to do lab session 6 for embedded system.Lab session 6 is about timer and interrupt. The objectives are to produce clock timing in CCS C compiler. It is also to write a system code in C to display clock on LCD simulation and hardware and lastly display triggered by the time set by the system clock.

Seventh Day

Assalamualaikum, as usual at 9 o'clock I arrived UTeM. I've been given a new task which is related to PIC16F876A. Mr Mazran teach how to make RS232 Data Interface Cable. Black wire need to connect to pin number 5, and white wire need to connect to pin number 3 and lastly yellow wire need to connect to pin number 2.

Fifth Day

Assalamualaikum and good morning, 11/7/12, the new task given. We have to study the basic of GSM modem. As I know, GSM modem is similar to mobile phone. It accepts a SIM card and basically work same as mobile phone but it is for computer. GSM modem receive and transmit data through radio waves.
Mr Mazran teach us how to set up GSM modem.

Fourth Day

Today I've tested my PIC board whether it function or not. Since PW LED for switch is light up, I've tested using vibrator sensor to see whether LED-C4 is light up or not.After confirm the board is functional, I connect to LCD display to make sure the next task can be proceed.

Figure above are examples of the step that are taken to make sure board is functional. Next task, Mr Mazran ask to study AT command.

Third Day

On Monday, I've started soldering on PIC board. Before started soldering, I've read the student handbook given by Encik Mazran Bin Esro to understand about soldering technique. Then, I've been teach by other student who had done the soldering process. For this task, I've learned new component that I've never been used before for an example diode, resistor and LED that are surface mount device (SMD).

 For soldering, it is important to use soldering smoke absorber fan. The smoke of tin lead alloy may effect our body system. The smoke from lead solder irritates the sinus and lung tissues, particularly in individuals with asthma. Over time, exposure to lead solder smoke can lead to permanent respiratory problems..



Second Day

Today, we have learn how to write blog as we can put all our activities in blog. Blog can act as diaries where we will not missed anything what we have done along our industry training.

First Day

First task that been given by Eng. Siva Kumar is the fundamental of electronics which is to how read the labels on  components, how to differentiate types of component. Besides that, there are two categories of electronic components:

  1. Through Hole Technology 
  2. Surface Mount Technology (SMT)
